Job Summary
We are looking for a versatile Business Development Officer – Power & Non-Operated Ventures (Regional) as a critical contributor to Axxela’s strategic efforts to expand its presence across West Africa’s power and energy value chains. The role supports the identification, assessment, and execution of both operated and non-operated energy ventures, covering utility-scale and embedded power, captive generation, energy trading, and third-party partnership models.
Job Details
- Analyze industry trends, market conditions, energy demand, pricing, and regulations to identify new business opportunities.
- Evaluate power and energy markets in West Africa to identify entry points and growth opportunities.
- Assist in developing and executing Axxela’s regional power trading and non-operated ventures strategy in line with company growth plans.
- Identify and assess potential investments, including joint ventures, minority stakes, and third-party infrastructure projects.
- Develop strong business cases, concept notes, and investment proposals for internal approval and executive decision-making.
- Develop and maintain financial models to assess the commercial viability of power and gas-to-power projects.
- Support project assessments through technical reviews, budgeting, tariff analysis, and investment return calculations (NPV, IRR, payback, sensitivity tests).
- Prepare clear presentations, reports, and pitch decks for partners, investors, DFIs, regulators, and internal teams.
- Assist in preparing data rooms, coordinating consultants, and reviewing project documentation.
- Support regional business development activities, manage stakeholder engagements, and track progress reports.
- Track and report on financial and operational performance of active projects and portfolio investments.
- Maintain up-to-date information on competitors, market trends, project benchmarks, and financial structures.
- Support the mapping and development of key partnerships and alliances in regional markets—including project developers, investors, utilities, and industrial clusters.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in economics, Finance, Business Administration, Engineering or any numerate discipline with a minimum of second-class grade.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in business development, financial services, infrastructure, consulting, or the energy sector.
- Prior exposure to West African energy markets or international energy investment projects is a strong advantage.
- Strong capability in financial modelling, valuation techniques, and investment appraisal.
- Familiarity with power project lifecycles (IPP, captive, embedded), non-operated asset structures, and gas-to-power business models.
- Strong research, analytical thinking, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word; Power BI or project management tools is a plus.
